Having originally qualified as a midwife Susan went on to develop expertise in performing fetal heart scans in a major teaching hospital where she worked for several years. She was also involved in much research and completed a PGC in Medical Ultrasound (Obstetrics and Gynaecology).

Since then Susan has progressed her love of art by taking further training in drawing and painting in a variety of genres and mediums by attending classes and workshops taught by professional artists. She has applied her skills to the area of illustration, and has a particular interest in investigating and conveying biological processes through images. She was a contributor to Wellcome Images and currently contributes to Science Photo Library.
